Diamond Settings

Diamond settings form naturally in the deep mantle of the earth, and can also by synthetically altered. Most natural diamonds are formed in high-pressure, high-temperature depths of the earth, usually around 100 miles into the Earth’s mantle. Carbon minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods of billions of years.

Diamonds are brought nearer to the Earth’s surface by volcanic eruptions. The explosion creates an extremely deep, wide hole which diamond miners refer to as a “pipe.” This is where most diamonds settle.

Diamonds can also be produced synthetically in a high-pressure, high-temperature process which mimics the natural conditions in the mantle of the earth. Additionally, several non-diamond materials, including cubic zirconia and silicon carbide, can be made to resemble the diamond in appearance as well as many properties.
